About AMPS Traction, LLC

AMPS Traction, LLC is a U.S.-based engineering and manufacturing company specializing in FRA-compliant, all-battery, zero-emission locomotive systems and advanced rail technologies. Our mission is to develop prudent mobile products that empower customers to effectively improve air quality, reduce environment impact while being fiscally responsible.

We partner with rail operators, ports, scenic railroads, and industrial clients to design, integrate, and deploy next-generation battery systems, safety technologies, and mechanical solutions that meet the demands of real-world rail environments.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 3-5 years of experience to support ongoing rail and heavy-industry engineering projects. This is a 6-month role with the potential to transition into a full-time position based on project load and performance.

The ideal candidate will work closely with our engineering and operations team to develop, document, and support mechanical systems for battery-electric locomotive conversions, rail equipment, and related industrial platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for rail and industrial applications

  • Create and maintain detailed 2D drawings, 3D models, and technical documentation

  • Support prototype builds, system integration, and field installations

  • Perform engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, and design validation

  • Collaborate with electrical, manufacturing, and project teams to ensure system compatibility and compliance

  • Support vendor coordination, part selection, and technical reviews

  • Assist with compliance documentation for applicable FRA, safety, and industry standards

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • 3-5 years of mechanical engineering experience

  • Proficiency in CAD software (Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or equivalent)

  • Experience creating manufacturing drawings and technical documentation

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills

  • Ability to work both independently and within a small, fast-moving engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in rail, heavy equipment, automotive, or industrial machinery environments

  • Familiarity with battery systems, enclosures, thermal management, or structural design

  • Exposure to compliance-driven industries or regulated equipment (FRA, OSHA, or similar)

  • Hands-on prototyping or field support experience

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge zero-emission rail technology

  • 6-month role with the potential to transition into a full-time position

  • Collaborative, mission-driven engineering environment

  • Exposure to real-world rail operations and advanced battery-electric systems
