John Bokros
John is a lifetime resident of Westerville and graduate of Westerville High School class of 1971. He retired as Chief Fire Marshall from Westerville Division of Fire after 38 years of service. John also received numerous leadership and technical training including FEMA National Academy, National Emergency Management institute, Hocking Technical College, Paramedic certification, State of Ohio Professional Firefighter Card in addition to his extensive knowledge of city operations, budgeting and history. John remains active in the community currently service as Vice Mayor on City Council as well as the Westerville Education Foundation and past member of the Westerville Parks Foundation.
Kathy Cocuzzi
Kathy has been a resident of Westerville for the last 35 years and is currently completing her third term (12 years) on City Council as well as serving as Mayor for her third term (6 years). She earned her BA in Psychology and BA in Speech Pathology/Audiology. Kathy had been serving the city for many years, including the Westerville Library Board of Trustees, Concord Counseling Board of Trustees, Safety City Director, Parks & Rec Advisory Board, and the Charter Review Commission.
Valerie Cumming
Valerie received her Master’s in Fine Arts from the University of Michigan in 2002 and her Bachelor of Arts with Honors and Distinction from The Ohio State University in 2000. She is the author of “BTW: Stuff You Should Know,” an educational current events blog used in middle schools and high schools nationwide. Valerie has been involved within the city in many elements such as serving as a delegate for the Westerville Parent Council, Troop Leader and Service Unit Member with the Westerville Girl Scouts, and a Graduate of Westerville Citizens’ Academy 2017.
Alex Heckman
Alex is a graduate of Westerville South High School and earned his Bachelor’s degree in History and Social Studies Education from Capital University. Alex also has a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Management and a Master of Public Administration degree from Ohio State University.
Alex grew up in Westerville and two of his first “real” jobs were cleaning the parks for the Westerville Parks & Recreation Department and serving as Assistant Director of the Otterbein University Center for Career and Professional Development. Currently, Alex is Chair of Department of Public Administration at Franklin University where he prepares professionals to lead government and nonprofit agencies. Heckman has also taught government leadership and management at Ohio State University and Capital University. Alex also worked as a Budget and Policy Analyst for the Ohio Legislature and as an auditor for the Ohio Auditor of State. As a Performance Auditor and Audit Manager, he worked on audits that identified ways to improve the efficiency of government and potentially saved taxpayers millions of dollars. Alex also served on the Westerville School Board where led the commissioning of a performance audit that helped save up to $12.5 million of taxpayers money, while the District also earned its first ever “Excellent” academic rating.
Michael Heyeck
Michael has earned three College Degrees including a MBA, Business & Finance from the University of Dayton, and a BS, MS, in Electrical Engineering from NJ Institute of Technology. He has also completed two executive programs from the American Electric Power’s Management Program and the Darden Executive Program from University of Virginia.
Michael had been a member of City Council since 1993, holding council leadership positions of Chairman, Mayor, Vice Chairman, and on Planning Commission for well over ten years. He retired as the Senior Executive, AEP after 37 years in Business and Finance areas; Founded The Grid Group, LLC in 2013, providing strategic advisory services for the electric utility industry.
Michael has Experienced Community Leadership since 1986. Severing on numerous City Boards & Commissions including Community Boards such as WARM, Otterbein's The Point, and Westerville Industry & Commerce Corporation, and has been a Westerville Chamber individual member since 1994.
Larry Jenkins
Larry received his BS of Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and has been a member of Westerville City Council since 2009, he is currently serving Vice Chair of Council. Served as member of Planning Commission from 2005 to 2009, Member of the Westerville Area Chamber of Commerce and previous member of the Government Relations Committee.
Larry has engaged citizens through active involvement with the Westerville Sunrise Rotary Club which presents the Westerville Field of Heroes, Concord Counseling Board of Directors, Uptown Westerville Board of Directors, the Westerville Fund Board of Directors, Westerville South Instrumental Music Boosters, and Boy Scout Troop 471.
Lee Alan Peters
Lee is a Graduate of Grove City High School and received a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration and a Master’s in Public Administration from The Ohio State University, as well as a Masters in Health Care Administration from Ohio University.
Lee has lead community service projects including included working with Alpha Phi Omega, coeducational service fraternity, Boy Scouts of America, receiving his Eagle Scout, Autism Society of Ohio (served as treasurer), Habitat for Humanity (founding board member), the United Way (served as President in both Paulding and Williams Counties), and Rotary International. He currently manage 24 people and a budget of over $7 million as the Manager of Materials Management at University Hospital Samaritan Medical Center.
